This was a pure, classic track and field event. The best in the state seemed to all simultaneously peak for their events, both Friday, and Saturday. In the end it came down to fractions of a point in the case of the boys, and one point for the girls separating the winners and the runners up. The support of the youth in Hawaii was felt throughout the weekend, and to witness it, and be a part of it is immensely special.

Seabury Hall: Small School Big Athletes

This past weekend 4 boys and 7 girls from the small upcountry private high school Seabury Hall made the journey to Oahu for the 2013 Island Movers Hawaii State Track and Field Championships. Seabury Hall is a college preparatory school from 6th to 12 grade. The high school has about 320 students and is located above the small town of Makawao. Despite being a small the school has a rich history of running. I attended Seabury from 1989 to 1995.

This years race brought out 98 women to meet up at Keopuolani Park to race in the early morning. There were so many volunteers too. There was a tad of cloud cover just before the start, but overall this was a hot, fast course.

2013 MIL Track and Field Championship - Day 1 - Results Here

The top athletes from the Maui Interscholastic League joined for the last championship track meet of the season. The MIL is one of many leagues in the state of Hawaii, but is filled with many top athletes in the State.

Set Up

When Maui Runner arrived for the Maui 5K starting at Ma'alea triangle it was a perfect day for a race. The sun was behind the clouds and there was very little wind. This second annual race, started to come together around 6 a.m., we saw the race directors John and Arlene, and volenteer announcers Jamie and Nancy, and a handful of others. Soon the truck with the cones arrived to mark out the course, and to protect the runners.

2013 Victorino Ohana  Track and Field Invite

This is a special invite during the track and field season on Maui. Shane Victorino, a talented athlete in many sports, track being one of them, attended St. Anthony High School (class of '99). The Victorino family celebrates youth athleticism on Maui with the Victorino Ohana Invitational Track and Field Meet.

Two Days of Great Performances at the Yamamoto Invite -Full Results 

Cool and overcast conditions with light trade-winds and a lot of eager and athletic high schoolers made for great competitions in the 2013 Yamamoto Invitational. Friday night started off with the trials in most events. The girls pole vault had finals on Friday night, with Baldwin senior Amber Kozaki showing the state that she is the top vaulter around.

Congrats to the Newlyweds John and Jane Ricardi the male (with a new Course Record) and female winners of the 2013 Run 'till You're Green. The two were here on their honeymoon and decided to hop in this race just days before. Great weather, with very little trade winds, provided runners a great opportunity to see how fast they can run three miles. 143 runners participated in this years event.

The Hapalua - Hawaii's Half Marathon includes "The Chase" a unique race of local runners against some of the best in the world. The Chase consists of multiple staggered starts starting with three waves of women chosen to be on Team Hawaii, followed by three waves of the men selected for Team Hawaii.
